May 18th is International Museum Day!

To celebrate, we are leading special behind-the-scenes tours in our storage rooms with museum staff. These rooms are not usually accessible to the public…but we’re opening them up just for you! How do we keep the artifacts and archival documents safe? How do we choose artifacts for display? Do we have dinosaur bones? Do we have secret love letters? Find out the answers to these questions and more on this rarely-offered tour!

You can also try out a scavenger hunt and take part in other fun activities throughout the galleries!

Time: 11am to 4pm

Cost: Free Admission

No Registration Required

Every year since 1977, ICOM has organized International Museum Day (IMD), which represents a unique moment for the international museum community. On this day, participating museums plan creative events and activities related to the International Museum Day theme, engage with their public and highlight the importance of the role of museums as institutions that serve society and its development.

This year’s theme, “Museums, Education, and Research,” underscores the pivotal role of cultural institutions in providing a holistic educational experience. This day pushes for a more conscious, sustainable and inclusive world.
